A 4: Self assessment

A 4: Self assessment

1. Demonstration of technical and visual skills – Materials, techniques, observational skills, visual awareness, design and compositional skills

I have experimented with new ways of working: using ‘chance’ as a way of creating a new direction and impetus to my work; working collaboratively with my tutor to research and develop ideas about ‘Assemblage’ and still life display using a Padlet format; creating a critical thinking timeline for the whole project.

Using the ‘chance’ flagstone image I have selected archive and family images to produce a sequence according to principles by Jorg Colberg. My dodecahedron idea for presenting my stage images is not yet executed but is a strong material output.

2. Quality of outcome – Content, application of knowledge, presentation of work in a coherent manner, discernment, conceptualisation of thoughts, communication of ideas

The multimodal nature of my material is diverse but also connected to ideas in my contextual studies about power relations. I think that is most fully expressed in the ‘Text’ and ‘Assemblage’ series. I have restrained myself if labelling the works but that will need care an attention in the next assignment. There will be a challenge is what I reject and do not persue as much as what I continue with to submission.

3. Demonstration of creativity – Imagination, experimentation, invention, development of a personal voice

I think that I am showing something that others are not. My work challenges power relations about covid. It is personal and inventive in using genres of staging, still life, performance and autoethanography to communicate personal and wider concerns.

4. Context – Reflection, research, critical thinking

My practice is iterative and blends research, theory, photographic research and practice together.

My contextual studies are about power, especially the writings of Foucault, but also others such as Freud and Hall, and there is a growing synergy between bother elements of this module.

I am instinctively a reflective person and this shows itself in this blog.
